What is Stewardship?

I have to start off this site with a post about stewardship, after-all the site is called StewardshipDad.com.  If I started anywhere else, this entire site would be pointless.  I don’t want you to read pointless information.  I want you to have the understanding of what true stewardship really is and how you can apply it to all the other topics we’re going to talk about together. I Saw that Coupon Show!…How do I do that?

I want to thank Toya M. Chisholm for taking the time to write this article for my blog.  My wife, Wendy, does the grocery shopping and sometimes couponing so I have almost NO experience with this subject and really felt it would help my readers to know another way to save even more money with coupons.  Thank you Toya, you’ve given me great insight on a topic I had no clue!

We’ve all seen or heard of the reality television show about extreme couponing. Women and men scouring the aisles of their favorite grocery stores, purchasing mountains of products for amounts so low, that even Scrooge would be jealous. The questions begging to be answered are usually “Who needs 168 candy bars?”, followed closely by “How do I do that???” Read More

Throwing snow at the debt!

dollar-snowball

You have your starter emergency fund you learned about in the “Do You have Financial Security in an Emergency” article, you’ve been doing a MONTHLY budget you learned about in the “Do You Know Where Your Money Is Going” Article, and you’ve been using envelopes to control spending you learned about in the “Envelopes, Envelopes everywhere!” article, but how are you managing that debt? Envelopes, Envelopes everywhere!

I’m part of a group on Facebook called Dave Ramsey-Budgeting.  Great group, great questions constantly are brought up where everyone tries to chip in and help others stay on track to get out of debt or get started to get financially free.  One of those big great questions that constantly come up is how do you start using envelopes.  After about the 10th – 20th one I saw posted, I decided to write this.

Let me just start by saying the envelope system is amazingly easy.  It’s only complicated if you make it complicated.  My 3 yr. old daughter has 3 envelopes, “Give”, “Spend”, and “Save”. Obviously as adults, we can’t only have these three, but it’s as simple as you make it and merely taking the money out of your account and stuffing an envelope should never be complicated.

Do you know where your money is going?

This step is the 2nd most critical to becoming financially free, 2nd only to trusting God and allowing Him to be the Owner and you the Manager.

As Dave Ramsey puts it, you have to give EVERY dollar a name.  I say if you don’t tell it where to go, your money will just go and you’ll never see it again.  Have you ever noticed, you know you just got paid but still don’t have any money?  It’s because it went bye bye to never never land!  You need a budget to know where your money is going.
